Lotus Vegetarian Court

The commercial area in Bandar Baru Klang has a number of interesting eateries. One of them is Lotus Vegetarian Court (莲池阁素食). This vegetarian restaurant specializes in Chinese-style cooking.

With an air-conditioned dining area, Lotus Vegetarian Court obviously caters to family dining. For a party of 2-3 persons, there is a set menu (RM33.90) which consists of 3 dishes and 1 soup. The meal includes free flow of white rice.

The first dish is Claypot Pork With Salted Fish (咸鱼花腩煲). The imitation pork emulates fatty meat pretty well. Served in a claypot, the “pork” is cooked with imitation salted fish and dried chili peppers. I recommend this dish for first-time customers.

The next dish is Tofu With Minced Meat (肉碎豆腐). Bean curd is served in thick gravy that contains diced carrots and mock meat. The overall taste is acceptable.

This is followed by a vegetable dish, Yau Mak With Fermented Bean Curd (腐乳油麦). Leaf lettuce (油麦) is stir-fried with fermented bean curd sauce (豆腐乳). The sauce is slightly savory in flavor. Watch out for cili padi (bird’s eye chili) as it can be very spicy if accidentally bitten.

The Bitter Gourd Soup (苦瓜汤) also contains wood ear fungus (黑木耳) and carrots. I personally love the unique taste of bitter gourds.

Overall, the food at Lotus Vegetarian Court is acceptable. Given the decent ambience of this vegetarian restaurant, the menu pricing is quite reasonable. My only complaint is the poor choice of rice. I think the use of brown rice will be appreciated by most customers.
