Cowboy Street Café

Cowboy Street Café (牛仔街) is a small restaurant at Victoria Street (Lebuh Victoria). The shop is just behind Kedai Minuman Dan Makanan CF (进福饮食中心).

Cowboy Street Café has the typical atmosphere of a kopitiam. The dining area is filled with marble tabletops and wooden chairs. Although there is no air conditioning, the place is reasonably well ventilated.

Cowboy Street Café primarily serves Fuzhou cuisine (福州菜). Taking advantage of the shop’s proximity to Armenian Street (Lebuh Armenian), the eatery attracts tourists by offering Western dishes too.

The signature Fuzhou dish here is Red Wine Chicken (福州特制红糟鸡, RM7.00). Red yeast wine gives the chicken a bitter aftertaste that I find appealing. The dish also comes with Fuzhou fish balls (福州鱼丸). As advised by the shop, I ordered the dish with mee suah (面线).

Kuang Chiang (广将, RM3.00) comes in 2 pieces per serving. The snack is very similar to Lok Bah (卤肉) except for the absence of meat. Like Lok Bah, Kuang Chiang is deep-fried so that the skin becomes crispy.

Red Bean Blended (红豆搅, RM4.00) is the perfect drink for a hot afternoon. The slushy drink contains bits of red beans.

If you enjoy Fuzhou cuisine, I cannot recommend Red Wine Chicken (福州特制红糟鸡) highly enough. It would be nice to taste other Fuzhou dishes here next time.
