The Big Beans

Lorong Madras is a small alley between Macalister Road (Jalan Macalister) and Burmah Road (Jalan Burma) in George Town. Tucked among a row of old shophouses is The Big Beans. The café occupies the former premises of EAT Cafe.

Stepping inside the eatery, The Big Beans presents a warm and homely atmosphere. The wooden floor gives the place a rather rustic charm.

The Big Beans brews a blend of coffee beans sourced from around the world. Other beverage choices here are teas, smoothies and milkshakes.

I ordered Mont Blanccino Coffee (RM12.90), which comes with a butter cookie. The espresso-based drink is infused with hazelnut and caramel. Covered with milk foam, the coffee is quite satisfying.

As for food, Barbecue Chicken & Ham Ciabatta (RM15.90) is the café’s bestseller. The sandwich contains roasted chicken, ham, tomato, cucumber, barbecue sauce and cheese. The homemade ciabatta is tasty and pleasantly crispy.

The sandwich comes with garden salad on the side. The salad comprises of arugula, red chicory and balsamic vinegar.

My choice for dessert is Pancakes With Strawberry & Banana (RM12.90). The pancakes are topped with chocolate syrup, honey and a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

All in all, The Big Beans’ coffee and food strike a chord with my palate. I also love the relaxing ambience in the café.
