Medan Selera Taman Eng Ann

Medan Selera Taman Eng Ann is an open-air hawker center in front of Alliance Bank. The eatery is known among locals as “under the big tree” (大树下) because most stalls here used to operate under a huge tree before being relocated here.

Cathay Laksa Klang (吧生国泰叻沙) is one of the stalls here. We ordered a bowl of Mee Curry (咖哩面, RM5.50), which consists of yellow noodles (黄面) and rice vermicelli (米粉) served in coconut-infused curry. The noodle dish also contains chicken, hard-boiled egg, tofu puffs (豆卜) and bean sprouts. The dish is acceptable but it is saltier than necessary.

Operated by Indians, Rojak & Cendol Shan is another popular stall here. Rojak Biasa (RM3.50) is a mixture of cucur udang (prawn fritters), hard-boiled eggs, potatoes and tofu dressed with sweet peanut sauce.

There is yet another stall called Tan Kee Poh Piah Leng Chi Kang (陈记薄饼八宝汤). Poh Piah (薄饼, RM1.80) comprises of a thin crêpe rolled with jicama (芒光), cucumber, tofu and pork lard (猪油渣). Pork lard is what makes the snack so tasty.

Leng Chi Kang (莲子羹, RM1.80) is ordered from the same stall. It contains lotus seeds (莲子), longan (龙眼), red beans and barley. The iced dessert is quite refreshing especially on a hot day.
