D Colorful

Update: This business has ceased its operations.

The English name of D Colorful Chinese Restaurant (家乐福中餐厅) is a phonetic translation of its Chinese name. Nevertheless, this restaurant at Elit Avenue takes a colorful theme for its facade and interior décor.

D Colorful has an on-going set meal offer for RM18.80. The meal consists of a choice of main dish (either noodles, congee or fried rice), two side dishes and a drink. If you want to order a main dish from this list, it is better to opt for the set meal as the à la carte price is around RM15.00 anyway.

Today, my choice for the main dish is Pork Soup Ramen With Pork Belly & Egg (猪骨生奶汤拉面). The pork broth is quite rich but I feel that it is on the saltier side. Nevertheless, it is tasty enough for me to finish the very last drop.

On the other hand, the texture of noodles is too “doughy” as opposed to being springy. As a result, I feel surfeited rather quickly. Other ingredients in the soup are pork meat with bones, as well as a soft-boiled egg.

The first side order is Shanghai Minced Pork Dumpling (南翔小笼包). The dough skin is succulent and so is the minced pork within. However, I feel that the amount of soup in the dumplings is somewhat lacking.

The second side order is Deep Fried Mushroom With Spice (椒盐脆金针菇) coupled with Japanese Steamed Egg (日式蒸水蛋). The former is quite appetizing and particularly crispy while still hot from the fryer. As for the steamed egg, I prefer its texture to be more delicate.

My choice of drinks is Soya Bean (豆水). I enjoy the thick, creamy consistency which is very satisfying indeed.
