Loong’s Kitchen

MH Avenue is a new building at Jalan Genting Kelang, Setapak. It is somewhat across the main road from Kedai Makanan Sky (天下美食馆). At the far side from the main road is the sole eatery here, Loong’s Kitchen (煲煲好小厨).

Loong’s Kitchen is an air-conditioned restaurant with reasonably airy setting. As the restaurant is opened recently, the menu is rather limited in order to streamline the kitchen’s operations. There are several parking spaces in front of Loong’s Kitchen, but there is hardly enough for everyone during dinner hours.

According to the menu, the signature item at Loong’s Kitchen is Claypot Curry Fish Head (咖喱鲮鱼头煲, RM35.00). The choice of fish is mud carp, a freshwater fish which is usually raised in fish farms nowadays. Unfortunately, there is very little flesh on the fish’s head. Even the amount of tofu puff (豆腐卜), okra (羊角豆) and cabbage is miserably insufficient. Meanwhile, the curry is plainly spicy without an additional level of savoriness. I think the problem lies in the richness of broth that is used to prepare this dish.

Meanwhile, the serving of Pork Belly With Yam (招牌芋头扣肉, RM28.00) consists of pork belly slices interleaved with slices of taro. The pork has the desired composition of lean and fatty tissues. I think the savory gravy is well-prepared as a whole.

Lastly, Garlic Chinese Lettuce (蒜香灼中国生菜, RM12.00) is a huge disappointment given its pathetically small serving size. I am not expecting a large portion – just something of decent size.
