Scarborough

This article is part of my 2016 Langkawi trip.

At the western end of Tanjung Rhu is a roadside restaurant called Scarborough Fish & Chip Restaurant. The eatery is named after Scarborough in England because the owners used to work in a fish and chips establishment in the United Kingdom.

Scarborough is located on the left if you drive from Ayer Hangat town. This open-air restaurant is unlikely to be overlooked due to its distinctive sky blue color. I think the main selling point here is scenic view of the sea.

My lunch choice is Pan-Fried Barracuda (RM30.00). The fish is cooked reasonably well but I think it is slightly on the dry side. Fortunately, tartar sauce helps to alleviate the situation. A lemon wedge is provided to provide some citrus tanginess, but I feel that it is unnecessary. Steak fries and vegetable salad are served on the side.

My drink is a chilling glass of Pineapple Juice (RM10.00). The drink is quite pulpy as it is blended from fresh fruits. Anyway it does not really matter as my mind is mesmerized by the lovely scenery.

Overall, the food here is acceptable but is mediocre at best. I think an area of improvement is getting the right level of doneness. This is easier said than done because each type of fish has a different “sweet spot”.
