Kompleks Penjaja Desiran Tanjung is relatively deserted compared to nearby places such as Fettes Park, Precinct 10 and Vantage Desiran Tanjung This is probably due to the food court’s remote location in Tanjung Tokong. Besides Roti Bakar Kacang Phool Penang which I covered during my previous visit, there is another stall called Terlioq Pasta Sandwich. Inspired by American and European cooking, its menu consists of a handful of options for pasta, sandwich and snack.
California Chicken Club (RM10.00) is a recommended dish here. The ciabatta bread is fantastic indeed; it has been a while since I came across such delicious ciabatta. The bread’s texture is sufficiently firm but not too tough, providing excellent mouthfeel when bitten into. Its aroma is pretty appealing too.
Sandwiched between halves of a ciabatta bread, the crispy fried chicken is delectable indeed. Also included in the sandwich are chicken ham, fresh tomatoes, lettuce, cheddar cheese, tomato sauce and mayonnaise. The ingredients are largely fresh, making the California Chicken Club quite affordable when quality is taken into consideration.
Optionally, an order of onion rings is available for an additional RM4.00. I feel that onion rings are slightly dry; perhaps they should be cooked more briefly. Tomato sauce and delta sauce are provided. The latter is made from mayonnaise, lemon juice and paprika, and was popularized by an American fast food chain, Popeyes.
