Update: This business has ceased its operations.

Mey Wey Char Bee Hoon (美味炒米粉) is located along the main road of Tanjung Tokong, somewhat opposite of Vantage Desiran Tanjung. The air-conditioned eatery occupies the front part of an office building. Mey Wey is operated by the same company as Blue Reef Fish & Chips.

As the name implies, Mey Wey’s signature dish is Fried Bee Hoon (炒米粉, RM2.00). Rice vermicelli is cooked with bean sprouts and cabbage. Sweet tofu strips, fried until crispy, carry the most weight in the taste department. Chili sauce is optional but is generally recommended. If the serving size is too small for you, go for the large portion for RM1.00 more.

While the Fried Bee Hoon is quite affordable, the Curry Chicken With Potato (RM5.50) is rather expensive for such a small portion. In terms of taste, I feel that the curry is not as flavorful as I thought it should be.

I also ordered a serving of Vegetables (RM3.00). Broccoli and cauliflowers are fried with light gravy and are quite crunchy. Nevertheless, I prefer the vegetables to be cooked longer so that they become softer.

The bowl of Sweet Potato (RM2.00) contains two types of sweet potato and some sago pearls. The dessert is not too sweet – just at the level that I wanted.

Mey Wey’s pricing is comparable to hawker stalls as long as one avoids too many add-ons to the Fried Bee Hoon. Most dishes have been cooked upfront, so not all choices are available at once. All in all, the food here is acceptable but nothing particularly sticks out if you are looking for something special.
