Special thanks to Cititel Penang for extending this food review invitation.
Cititel Penang is a 4-star hotel at Penang Road (Jalan Penang). The property is managed by CHM Hotels, which also operates The Wembley at Magazine Road (Jalan Magazine). Cititel Penang looks quite small from the front because the building is much longer than it is wide.
Main Street Cafe is the hotel’s all-day dining restaurant. This halal-certified eatery is also where in-house guests have breakfast. Open 24 hours a day, Main Street Cafe’s menu covers a range of local and Western dishes. Vegetarian options are available too.
The dining area presents a warm ambience through the use of earthy tones. There are dining tables for parties from 2 to 10 people. Behind the drinks counter are several computer terminals for customers and hotel guests to browse the Internet.
Seafood Hor Fun (RM29.00) is the most popular noodle dish from the Ă la carte menu. Flat rice noodle and rice vermicelli are first fried in a wok, and then served with a gravy made of eggs and oyster sauce. The thick gravy plays a pivotal role in this dish’s appeal. Seafood ingredients include fish, prawns and squids.
As for Wantan Noodle Soup (RM29.00), egg noodle is served in a flavorful broth alongside chicken char siew, chicken dumplings, vegetables and shiitake mushrooms. Sliced green chili is provided.
Moving on to desserts, the rich Cheese Cake (RM19.00) is rather filling and satisfying. The cake is served with fresh strawberries and strawberry sauce.
Besides Ă la carte dishes, Main Street Cafe also serves buffet lunch and dinner on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. As for night owls, the restaurant offers Porridge Buffet Supper every Friday and Saturday from 11:00pm.
