Pizza Station is located at the ground floor of Sunshine Farlim. Opened in 2009, the place is quite popular among local shoppers. Trusted for its consistent taste, Pizza Station has built a steady stream of regulars throughout the years.

At Pizza Station, there are more than 20 pizza toppings to choose from. Popular toppings are chicken, beef, seafood, mushrooms and more. Vegetarian pizzas are available too. Pizzas come in 3 sizes: Personal (4 slices), Regular (6 slices) and Large (8 slices).

For larger orders, take advantage of Pizza Station’s Double Combo where customers can get twice the number of pizzas for just a few extra dollars. Meanwhile, the Super Value Meal combines pizzas, sides and drinks at discounted prices.

BBQ Meat Galore Pizza (RM28.80 for regular size) is one of the bestsellers here. The pizza is topped with chunky chicken, chicken rolls and sausages. Tangy barbecue sauce and mozzarella cheese enhance the overall taste. The pizza is served on a thin crust which has a light crisp.

Teriyaki Salmon Pizza is a new pizza on the menu. It contains salmon slices, mushrooms, pineapples, onions, green pepper, sesame seeds, teriyaki sauce and mozzarella cheese. The original crust is thicker so it feels doughier. This pizza goes especially well with Pizza Station’s homemade hot sauce.

Besides pizzas, Pizza Station also serves pasta, mushroom soup, buffalo wings, ramen burgers, set meals and drinks like Iced Lemon Tea (RM4.00). Neither pork nor lard is used in food preparation. Virtually all pizza ingredients, including the dough and sauces, are made from scratch.

Pizza Station provides food delivery to selected places in Penang – as far as Tanjung Tokong and Relau. Delivery is free for orders above RM30.00. Customers may place their orders through the phone by calling (+60) 16-486 6168 or (+60) 12-568 6168.

Italian Job Pizzaria serves pizza, pasta and gelato. The BBQ Chicken Pizza (RM12.00) is approximately 8 inches in diameter. It is topped with minced chicken, pineapples, onions, barbecue sauce, tomato sauce and cheese. The thin crust has a light crisp and presents a toasty aroma from the oven.

Drink choices include coffee, juices and soft drinks. The pricing at Italian Job Pizzaria is quite affordable despite the fact that The TOP is a popular tourist attraction.

Pizza Corner https://jillteo.com/2017/05/pizza-corner/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=pizza-corner Sun, 21 May 2017 05:00:00 +0000 https://jillteo.com/2017/05/pizza-corner/ Special thanks to Pizza Corner for extending this food review invitation.

Update: This business has ceased its operations.

Pizza Corner occupies the corner lot shop at the ground floor of Vanda Business Park in Sungai Dua (near USM). This pizzeria is several shops away from House Of Kolomee, which has been rebranded recently.

The dining section of Pizza Corner carries red and black colors, presenting the casual appearance of a typical pizza parlor in New York City.

There are roughly 20 pizza options on the menu. If you love seafood, the Hiroshima Pizza (RM27.00 for regular size) is a sensible choice. What I like most about this pizza is the crust which strikes a good balance between chewy and crispy textures.

Besides tuna and pineapples, this Japanese-influenced pizza also contains pieces of Japanese seaweed (海苔). Seafood sauce and mozzarella cheese also pull their weight.

Pizza Corner also has a dozen types of burgers that carry New York themes. One of the bestsellers is the Liberty Burger (RM13.90), which features a chicken patty, chicken bacon and cheddar cheese.

Also sandwiched between two halves of a charcoal bun are iceberg lettuce and onions. Mayonnaise dressing is present by default but a squeeze of ketchup certainly helps. Each order of burger comes with a side of fries.

As for pasta, Spaghetti Beef Bacon (RM13.90) is ideal if you are fond of creamy carbonara sauce. I feel that beef bacon’s saltiness is the perfect match for this pasta dish.

The spaghetti also carries mild spiciness from chili flakes. If you do not take beef, you may swap the bacon for chicken ham instead.

Chicken Cordon Bleu (RM16.00) is also one of my favorite dishes today. Chicken breast, chicken ham and cheese are made into a roll, which is then coated with bread crumbs and fried to light crispiness.

Chicken Cordon Bleu is served with delectable mushroom cream sauce. Also presented on the side are mixed vegetables and fries.

Ice Lemon Tea (RM2.50) is included with most set meals. In the case of à la carte orders, just add RM6.00 for a drink and a bowl of soup of the day.

Thai Fragrant Rice Set With Grilled Chicken Tenderloins (RM13.90) is currently on Pizza Corner’s seasonal menu. The two skewers comprise of chicken breast, bell peppers and onions. Teriyaki-like sauce is used to baste the skewers, while a sprinkle of sesame seed form the finishing touch. This dish comes with a free drink.

Pizza Corner makes its own pizza dough, burger buns and sauces from scratch. The menu is entirely pork-free. The pizzeria also provides free delivery within a 5-kilometer radius from the store – subjected to a minimum order of RM30.00. Orders can be placed by Phone/WhatsApp (016-416-8311), by Facebook or by email.

Pizza Station https://jillteo.com/2016/10/pizza-station-2/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=pizza-station-2 Sat, 15 Oct 2016 06:00:00 +0000 https://jillteo.com/2016/10/pizza-station-2/ Special thanks to Pizza Station for extending this food review invitation.

Sunshine Farlim is usually frequented by residents of Air Itam, but few people outside the immediate vicinity come here on a regular basis. In fact, I hardly remember the last time I visited this mall.

Right at the entrance of Sunshine Farlim is Pizza Station, a pizza shop which has been open continuously here since 2009. The pizza menu is organized into 3 categories of pizza toppings: Favourites, Supremes and Surfers Paradise. Pizzas come in 3 sizes: Personal (4 slices), Regular (6 slices) and Large (8 slices). As for pizza crust, there are 3 types: Original, Thin, Extreme Cheese.

At Pizza Station, pizzas are made to order to maintain their freshness. Typically, it takes approximately 13 minutes upon ordering to seeing hot pizzas exit the industrial-grade oven.

Pizza Station differs from many pizza places in the fact that it produces pizza dough and sauces from scratch. The menu is entirely pork-free, but beef is used in several instances. There are also a handful of vegetarian pizzas that do not contain onions in adherence to Buddhist vegetarianism.

One of the popular pizzas among regular customers is the Flaming Chicken (RM25.80), which goes well with Original crust. Dough is evenly spread with a layer of spicy tomato sauce, followed by grated mozzarella. Other toppings include chunks of spicy chicken, pineapples, green peppers, button mushrooms and onions. I like the fact that the crust strikes a fine balance between chewy and crispy textures. In addition, the homemade sauce and spicy chicken chunks contribute to the pizza’s scrumptious appeal.

Customer who prefer pepperoni and ham can opt for the Italiano (RM25.80), which works better with Thin crust. There is a choice of either chicken or beef toppings. Other ingredients used in this pizza are tomato sauce, button mushrooms, green peppers and onions. Molten mozzarella cheese holds all toppings in place. As far as the crust is concerned, this version has sharper crisp which appeals more to some people.

Apart from pizzas, Pizza Station also has ramen burgers such as the Cheesy Chicken Ramen Burger (RM14.80). The key highlight of this burger is the “buns” which are made from ramen “patties”, held in shape using beaten eggs. Sandwiched between the delectable ramen “patties” is a piece of deboned chicken thigh. Cooked on an iron griddle, the chicken remains tender and juicy.

Other ingredients contained in the burger are lettuce leaves, tomatoes, onions and the proprietor’s very own cheese sauce. There is also a slice of orange cheddar cheese for good measure. For an additional RM3.00, the meal includes fries and iced lemon tea. Ramen “buns” can be exchanged for regular buns at no extra charge, but I recommend against doing that because the former is special indeed.

Texas Barbecue Wings comes in sizes of either 2 sets (RM6.80) or 4 sets (RM12.80) of Buffalo wings; a set includes the wingette and drumette. After being grilled, the wings are glazed with Pizza Station’s signature barbecue sauce. The wings are best consumed while hot. Do not hesitate to use your hands because every bit of flesh is worth licking dry!

Wild Mushroom Soup (RM8.80) is the eatery’s bestseller apart from pizzas. The soup is made from genuine mushrooms, resulting in a thick, creamy stew suspended with little chunks of mushrooms. The natural savoriness of mushrooms is very satisfying to my palate. I am glad to have the privilege of savoring this soup today.

In addition to the à la carte menu, Pizza Station also offers several set meals for individual, couple or family customers. The choices of pizzas are under the Favourites categories, but customers can opt for Supremes or Surfers Paradise pizzas by paying the price difference. With prices starting from RM14.80, the set meals are more economical than ordering individual items separately.

Homemade Hot Sauce is one of the condiments provided for the convenience of customers. Similar to Tabasco sauce, it is made from chili peppers and vinegar, resulting in fiery pungency which accentuates the enjoyment of pizzas. The Homemade Hot Sauce is also available for purchase for RM16.80 per bottle. The shelf life is 3 months with refrigeration.

Pizza Station provides free delivery service within Air Itam, Farlim, Paya Terubong, Green Lane and Jelutong. Minimum order of RM20.00 is required. Delivery to other areas is possible for large orders and on case-by-case basis.

Yellow Beach Cafe https://jillteo.com/2016/08/yellow-beach-cafe/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=yellow-beach-cafe Thu, 11 Aug 2016 11:00:00 +0000 https://jillteo.com/2016/08/yellow-beach-cafe/ This article is part of my 2016 Langkawi trip.

Cenang Beach (Pantai Cenang) is the probably the most popular beach in Langkawi – synonymous to what Batu Ferringhi is to Penang. Compared to other beaches in Langkawi, Cenang Beach is noticeably better maintained.

Yellow Beach Cafe is one of the dozens of restaurants along this valuable strip of real estate. From the main road, the restaurant is accessible through Langkapuri Inn. Yellow Beach Cafe is operated by a Caucasian by the name of Thierry. His Thai friends called him “Yellow” because they had difficulty in pronouncing his name. This is how Yellow Beach Cafe got its name.

Faced with scenic views of the sea, it would be a shame not to order a cooling glass of Fruit Milkshake (RM16.00). This slushy drink is made from banana, mango, coconut, passion fruit, strawberry and raspberry. I feel that the milkshake is artificially sweet; I prefer to enjoy the natural sweetness of fruits.

From the pizza menu, my choice for dinner is the Special Yellow’s (RM38.00). This thin-crust pizza is 12 inches in diameter and is served on a wooden pizza peel.

Pizza toppings include mozzarella cheese, tomato sauce, pepperoni, artichokes and black olives. At the center of the pizza is an egg. Initially raw, the egg becomes partially cooked due to residual heat from the pizza. The resulting egg is still slightly runny when the pizza is served.

Tabasco sauce and chili oil are provided. These condiments help to accentuate the delectable appeal of pizza. All things considered, I feel that the pizza is not too shabby at all. However, I must admit that I have tasted better ones before.

As a tourist hotspot, the overwhelming majority of customers at Cenang Beach are tourists. It would be naive to expect reasonably priced food here. Nevertheless like other west facing beachfront properties at Cenang Beach, Yellow Beach Cafe affords excellent scenery especially during sunset.

Barista Pizzeria https://jillteo.com/2016/08/barista-pizzeria/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=barista-pizzeria Sun, 07 Aug 2016 03:00:00 +0000 https://jillteo.com/2016/08/barista-pizzeria/ Special thanks to Barista Pizzeria for extending this food review invitation.

The proprietors behind Barista Coffee ‘N’ Pizza House opened a new outlet 4 months ago. Formally known as Barista Café & Casa De Pizzeria, this eatery is located next to The Boutique Residence Hotel and is within a stone’s throw from the bustling Armenian Street (Lebuh Armenian) and Cannon Street (Lebuh Cannon).

Like the original outlet in Bazaar Tanjung, Barista Pizzeria specializes in hand-tossed pizza, pasta and coffee. There are nearly 20 types of pizzas with various toppings, ranging from chicken to mutton, seafood to vegetarian. Pizzas are made to order and typically take 20 minutes to prepare from scratch.

Barista Pizzeria spans the width of two shop units along Jalan Masjid Kapitan Keling. The dining section has air-conditioning, providing much-needed break from the scorching afternoon sun. Background music fills the room with lively character, making this place a great spot to rest and mingle around after a long day exploring the nearby heritage area.

Meanwhile, customers who prefer al fresco dining can find a seat along the front corridor of the eatery. Outdoor dining is more viable in the mornings and evenings when the weather is more favorable.

At Barista Pizzeria, each pizza comes in standard size of 11 inches and is served on a wooden peel. Typically, the pizza uses 3 types of cheese (colby, cheddar, mozzarella). Parmesan is sometimes used as the fourth. Dried Italian herbs and olive oil help to enhance aroma, which permeates the entire dining room with lovely fragrance as soon as the pizza comes out from the oven.

English Breakfast Pizza (RM24.00) was introduced to the menu recently and has toppings that are typical of English breakfast: chicken sausage, turkey bacon, mushroom, cherry tomato and egg. The egg is at the center is reasonably runny when served, resembling half-boiled egg that many people enjoy as breakfast. This pizza is usually given a light drizzle of mustard, but mustard sauce is unfortunately in low supply today.

Meanwhile, the Queen Margherita Pizza (RM21.90) is a type of Neapolitan pizza customarily topped with basil leaves, cheese and tomato sauce. The tomato sauce is infused with some cheese, making it rich in flavor on its own. In addition, the pizza also includes 3 types of cheese – all molten as a sticky layer above the crust. I find this pizza quite enjoyable and would certainly recommend it to anyone who loves basil.

The pasta section of the menu has a handful of spaghetti and linguine recipes. Fusion Mutton Bolognese (RM16.00) is probably one of the more special ones. A heap of linguine, cooked al dente, is topped with savory minced mutton and tomato gravy. Grated parmesan cheese, parsley and Italian herbs provide the finishing touch to this appetizing pasta dish.

Barista Pizzeria’s menu has a reasonably complete range of coffee drinks. Coffee beans are supplied by illy, a reputable coffee roaster from Italy with worldwide recognition. Each cup of coffee comes with a couple of cookies for good measure. Meanwhile, non-coffee drinkers can order from a list of non-caffeinated drinks such as soda, fruit juice and milkshake. Beer is also available.

Doppio (RM6.95) means “double” in Italian, or in coffee parlance, refers to double shot espresso. This is the best way to appraise illy’s coffee in its purest form.

Café Latte (RM7.95) consists of single shot espresso, abundance of steamed milk and a thin layer of milk foam. This hot drink is served in a tall transparent mug to showcase its smooth, homogeneous consistency.

Cappuccino (RM7.95) is similar to Café Latte but typically comes in smaller volume. Cappuccino contains equal parts of espresso, steamed milk and milk foam, making the top foam layer rather thick and appealing. A sprinkle of cocoa powder is added on top for aesthetic appeal.

Next is an iced coffee drink which enjoys widespread popularity in Italy. Shakerato (RM8.95) consists of two shots of espresso, milk and ice cubes – all shaken thoroughly in a cocktail shaker. The original version of Shakerato in Italy usually does not include milk.

As for coffee granita (iced blended coffee), there are also several interesting types to choose from. Mocha Invasion (RM11.95) is prepared from espresso, milk, chocolate syrup, coffee ice cream and ice cubes. Whipped cream and chocolate fudge serve as icing on the cake.

Besides dine-in customers, Barista Pizzeria also caters for private parties between 15 and 50 people. Party packages are attractively priced from RM13.90 per adult and RM7.90 per child, and typically include several types of pizza, soup, salad and drinks. Birthday cake and live performance can also be arranged upon request.

Update: This business has ceased its operations.

Bazaar Tanjung Retail Centre is a two-floor building between Prima Tanjung Business Centre and Hong San Si (凤山寺) Chinese temple. Compared to Prima Tanjung, Bazaar Tanjung looks relatively deserted. There are several pet shops at the ground floor. Few people actually step inside this building, much less explore the upper floor.

Towards the back of the upper floor is Barista Coffee ‘N’ Pizza House. This store just opened a week ago. Even the sign board has yet to be installed. As far as exposure is concerned, this is one of the most secluded eateries that I have ever encountered.

Barista wishes to assume the role of a local community café. Against my skepticism, a significant number of locals are already aware of the presence of this place. As the store is very small, the only dining tables are located outside the shop.

As the name implies, the menu of this eatery features pizzas with various toppings. There are also several types of pasta dishes. Meanwhile, an espresso machine provides hot and cold drinks, caffeinated and otherwise.

For food, I tried the Chicken Carbonara. Chicken ham and chicken pepperoni are served over spaghetti. Chopped parsley and parmesan cheese are used as garnish and seasoning. This pasta dish is priced at RM13.50 for à la carte order, or RM15.00 with any coffee beverage.

The spaghetti itself is cooked al dente, certainly properly prepared. The sauce, made from eggs, cheese and butter, provides creamy consistency that distinctively defines carbonara. As the creamy sauce dries up rather quickly, it is advisable to consume the pasta while it is still warm. Meanwhile, the ham and pepperoni are nicely cured, adding salty flavors to this dish.

Café Vienna (RM6.00) is a hot beverage made from a shot of espresso with whipped cream on top. Chocolate powder is lightly sprinkled on top. The espresso is made from medium-roast Arabica beans sourced from Latin America. Sweetness comes from whipped cream itself, so no additional sugar is required. Nevertheless, I still prefer my coffee not to be as sweet as this.

For something refreshing in a hot afternoon, the non-caffeinated Ice Blended Blueberry (RM12.00) is a viable choice to cool down. Blueberry juice and ice cream are blended together as a slushy mixture. The fruity drink is then topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

Although pizza is probably the main feature at this eatery, I have yet to try any yet. Perhaps I will try some pizzas during my next visit.

Giffy Pizza & More is located near the intersection of Penang Road (Jalan Penang) and Burmah Road (Jalan Burma).

The pizza parlor is operated by a nice Italian chap. We all know that Italians make the best pizzas, right?

As the pizzeria is rather small, dining space is somewhat limited. Fortunately, there are more seats upstairs.

The 12-inch Giffy Pizza (RM25.00) is topped with pepperoni, parmesan cheese, eggs, tomatoes, eggplants, black olives and capsicum.

The pizza crust has a lovely texture, while the amount of toppings is amazing. Giffy makes pizza dough from scratch. You cannot get pizzas any fresher than this!

US Pizza https://jillteo.com/2014/03/us-pizza/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=us-pizza Thu, 06 Mar 2014 11:00:00 +0000 https://jillteo.com/2014/03/us-pizza/ US Pizza is somewhat our obsession recently. We headed to the Green Lane outlet today for a casual dinner meal. It was barely a fortnight ago since we last visited.

We decided to try something different today: Penang Special Crust Pizza (RM32.95). This is a large (13 inch) pizza with original hand-tossed crust.

The toppings of this pizza are tuna, anchovies, cayenne pepper (red pepper in powdered form), green peppers and onions. The overall taste is dominated by cayenne pepper. This is to the extent that the pepper induces choking if we are not careful. Perhaps US Pizza wants to associate the toppings of this pizza to Penang’s historical role as a tropical spice distribution center.

In any case, we do not enjoy this pizza. We still prefer “mainstream” pizza toppings like pepperoni, chicken and pineapples.

We also ordered a serving of Crazi Garlic Twist (RM3.50) as our side order. 4 sticks of breadsticks are flavored with garlic butter then deep-fried to a nice snacking treat.

As we left, we notice that there is an anniversary special: Purchase one large pizza (RM32.95) and get a free regular pizza. This is only applicable for take-away and delivery. The second pizza must be selected from a list.

US Pizza https://jillteo.com/2014/02/us-pizza-2/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=us-pizza-2 Wed, 26 Feb 2014 07:00:00 +0000 https://jillteo.com/2014/02/us-pizza-2/ US Pizza in Island Glades is one of my favorite pizza parlors. Although the food can be quite pricey when there are no special offers, I think the taste is quite good and commensurates the price paid.

At US Pizza, the pizzas are tossed and baked right in front of your very eyes. This gives customers a sense of freshness and nostalgic originality.

Like our previous visit, we ordered the Jumbo Deluxe Crust Pizza (RM32.95). This time, we opted for chicken chunks instead of beef. Other pizza toppings are pepperoni, pineapples, bell peppers, onions and mushrooms. This toppings are held in place using a coating of tomato paste and molten cheese.

I love the pizza crust at US Pizza; It feels chewy and not too tough like rubber. The toppings are also fresh to each bite. This pizza is certainly a crowd-pleaser.

For sides, we also ordered the Crazi Garlic Twist (RM3.50) which comes with 4 sticks. The sticks are quite oily. I think US Pizza should tone the oil down.

Our dinner at US Pizza is quite satisfying. We will be back for more soon.
